Boffi wins the Compasso d’Oro ADI 2018 with the Eclipse project, designed by Studiocharlie.

On the occasion of the 25th edition of the Compasso d'Oro ADI, an international jury awarded the most prestigious Italian design award to Boffi for the Eclipse tap project.
Eclipse is the result of a collaboration between the Boffi Development & Research team and Studiocharlie, who conceived the concept for the tap collection.

"Eclipse is not an English term, but rather a Spanish one," say the architects, who are more influenced by the nuances of the Italian language than to the English-speaking connotations. "The origin of the name is derived from a scene in the movie “Matador” by Pedro Almodóvar, where an eclipse evokes strong emotions and great astonishment in the protagonists".

The same effect is the main objective that the designers wanted to achieve for their collection.

From an aesthetic point of view, the Eclipse tap is a compact and sculptural piece, consisting of two misaligned cylindrical elements, one sliding and rotating on top of the other. The design inspiration comes from the sculptures of the Romanian artist Constantin Brâncuşi that the designers of the Studiocharlie saw during a Parisian exhibition where the studio atelier of the artist was reconstructed. "We have been influenced by the bases of the sculptures, which, although less refined than the sculptures themselves, have the same volumes of our product".
A collection of taps with a strong aesthetic impact and a high technical value. The Boffi Development & Research team created a special slider, able to control the water by sliding the top disc of the tap and to adjust the water temperature by rotating the same disc. A new concept that revolutionises the traditional use of the lever.

Made with the best stainless steel alloys available on the market for this type of product, the double finish of Eclipse is obtained through a precise production technique: the body of the satin cylinder and the top part of the polished rotating disc are handmade by a technician who checks carefully the quality of the finish.

The unique concept conceived by the designers has been kept throughout the tap collection to maintain a common aesthetic.

The final piece and the whole tap collection now awarded by the Compasso d'Oro is the testimony of a strong and dynamic collaboration between the company and Studiocharlie.

«The strength of the concept presented by Studiocharlie has immediately won us over.
The industrial design, the technological innovation and the ergonomics of the opening / closing movement, make the Eclipse series an ambitious project. Boffi is always focused on the search of bright proposals. Since the first tap collections, over 20 years ago, we have always tried to match a distinctive offer with simple and minimal design, characteristics of all our activity».

The CEO of the Boffi Group, Roberto Gavazzi, declares.
