XPL
Design: Piero Lissoni
XPL stems from the idea of reducing the project to its essence: a pure, rigorous volume, almost floating in space. The island becomes a small domestic architecture, the design of a continuous surface in which details become the essence of the project. And, for once, I also allowed myself to soften the corners: a small gesture of kindness.
Designed by Piero Lissoni, XPL represents the evolution of the Xila kitchen system, originally created in 1972 by Luigi Massoni, and is based on a clear structural principle: reduction of form, control of proportions, and enhancement of construction detail as a distinctive element.
Its defining feature is the 90 mm chamfered side panel with a 32 mm radius outer edge: a gentle curve that shapes the project’s signature detail. XPL is available in a floor-panel version, which reinforces its monolithic character, and in a suspended version at plinth height, which accentuates its volumetric lightness.

A further configuration is represented by suspended units integrating a rear snack counter structurally connected to the system. It is an expression of advanced construction research in terms of stability and control of deformation across a span measuring 3 metres and 60 centimetres. The top, slightly overhanging in relation to the side panels, is finished with a 34 mm radius on all four corners and is available in 4 mm-thick solid stainless steel, 12 mm-thick MDi, and 20 mm-thick marble.
